Rectangular Ruby pendant on oval link chain

Chains are made from solid copper, although they are rose gold plated to preserve the finish. The plating will wear off in time, revealing the natural copper colour underneath. Ruby is one of the four precious gemstones and is part of the corundum family. The name ruby derives from the Latin word rubrum, which means red. Rubies range in shades; from pinkish to blood-red. Ruby and sapphire (the blue form of corundum), are siblings and they are the hardest stones after diamonds, scoring a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. The first written references to ruby deposits come from the 6^th century AD.
