About Emerald:
Probably the most valuable of the four famous precious gemstones, emeralds have been admired for their beauty and bold green colour for millennia. We often think of diamonds when we think of rare and expensive gemstones, but emeralds are more than 20 times more rare than diamonds. Emerald is the green variety of the family of beryl. Known from as early as 2 000 BC, Cleopatra’s passion for emeralds is well documented. It was also named as the fourth foundation stone in the wall of the new Jerusalem.
Some estimate that the oldest emeralds are around 2.97 billion years old.
