Using the copper electroforming technique, copper electrolytes are deposited over hours in a copper-acid solution, resulting in organic textures that are truly one-of-a-kind. Each pendant symbolizes love and carries a deep sense of meaning.
Please be aware that the colour of copper darkens over time, and the item can be cleaned using a sachet of Copperbrite and a soft cloth. (Available here)
Copper can potentially turn the skin green as it reacts with the chemicals in some skins. A coat of clear nail polish will prevent this.
About Peridot:
The vibrant green hue of the peridot is quite unique in the world of jewellery. The gem variety of the mineral olivine, peridot was first mined by the Ancient Egyptians. They worshipped the gems, believing them to be “gems from the sun”. In 2006 NASA’s Explorer spacecraft, Stardust, embarked on a mission to gather samples from near the sun. The particles analysed upon its return included gem-quality peridot believed to be as old as our solar system, approximately 4.5 billion years. Amazing!
Samples of the verdant green gem has been discovered in meteorites that crashed to earth millions of years ago. One meteorite, unearthed in 1749 in Siberia, contained peridot crystals large enough to make into jewellery, making it the only extra-terrestrial gem that can be worn.
Birthstone: August
Anniversary stone: 16th
Symbolism:
Peridot is associated with harmony, good health, reduced stress, restful sleep and peacefulness. It is also known as the stone of compassion and it calms anger by giving renewal to all things. This may be why it is seen as a symbol of married bliss. Furthermore, it is associated with nature and personal growth.
This gem was said to protect the wearer from nightmares and is still seen as a protective stone by some. It is also believed to free the mind of envious thoughts and resentment.
