It has been valued as an ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its colour. It is said that the name relates to the fact that it was brought to Europe by the Turks.
Known as the sky stone by Tibetan and Nepalese people, turquoise has been held sacred by people in the Himalayas for thousands of years. Children in Tibet are often gifted this gemstone in their early years to keep them safe in their journey through life.
