Small Ruby Short Dangly Earrings (July Birthstone)

Natural ruby, short copper dangly earrings, handmade with love and care. Gemstones are approximately 6-8 mm big. The total length of the earring from the piercing to the bottom is approximately 3,2cm.

The short dangly earring findings (the part that goes through the ear) are solid copper with a rose-gold plating, and therefore hypoallergenic. The plating will wear off in time, revealing the natural copper colour underneath. Copper is a natural antibacterial agent, and the wearing of copper jewellery is considered to have a therapeutic effect on the human body.

The gemstones we use are raw and unpolished, so they might have some” imperfections”. (In our opinion it adds to the beauty and individuality of each piece!) 

All jewellery comes beautifully packaged in a jewellery box with the relevant gemstone card and care guide, ready for gifting.

The gemstones are set in copper by a process called copper electroforming, which allows for the deposition of copper electrolytes over several hours in a copper/acid solution. This results in unique and unpredictable textures, as the entire process is organic.

 Please be aware that the colour of copper darkens over time, and the item can be cleaned using a sachet of Copperbrite and a soft cloth. (Available here Copperbrite and/or polishing cloth – Down to Earth Jewellery ) Copper can potentially turn the skin green as it reacts with the chemicals in some skins. A coat of clear nail polish will prevent this.

About Ruby:

Ruby is one of the four precious gemstones and is part of the corundum family. The name ruby derives from the Latin word rubrum, which means red. Rubies range in shades; from pinkish to blood-red. Ruby and sapphire (the blue form of corundum), are siblings and they are the hardest stones after diamonds, scoring a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. The first written references to ruby deposits come from the 6^th century AD.
