Down to Earth Jewellery

Small Black Tourmaline Short Dangly Earrings

Natural black tourmaline, short copper dangly earrings, handmade with love and care. Gemstones are approximately 6-8 mm big. The total length of the earring from the piercing to the bottom is approximately 3,2cm.

The short dangly earring findings (the part that goes through the ear) are solid copper with a rose-gold plating, and therefore hypoallergenic. The plating will wear off in time, revealing the natural copper colour underneath. Copper is a natural antibacterial agent, and the wearing of copper jewellery is considered to have a therapeutic effect on the human body.

The gemstones we use are raw and unpolished, so they might have some” imperfections”. (In our opinion it adds to the beauty and individuality of each piece!)

All jewellery comes beautifully packaged in a jewellery box with the relevant gemstone card and care guide, ready for gifting.

The gemstones are set in copper by a process called copper electroforming, which allows for the deposition of copper electrolytes over several hours in a copper/acid solution. This results in unique and unpredictable textures, as the entire process is organic.

Please be aware that the colour of copper darkens over time, and the item can be cleaned using a sachet of Copperbrite and a soft cloth. (Available here ) Copper can potentially turn the skin green as it reacts with the chemicals in some skins. A coat of clear nail polish will prevent this.

 About Black Tourmaline:

Tourmaline crystals are naturally electrically polarised and actually contain electric fields as a result. For this reason they are referred to as the Sri Lankan magnets, as they have the ability to attract and repel hot ashes. Black tourmaline is known as schorl and is considered the tourmaline with the highest positive energy.

Schorl is used in the walls of space stations, as it absorbs electromagnetic or solar radiation and it is seen to protect and repel negative energy.

 Birthstone: October

Anniversary stone: 8th

Symbolism:

As in many ancient cultures, black tourmaline is still seen today as a symbol of protection. It is believed to provide a psychic shield deflecting and dispelling negative energies, entities, or destructive forces. It is also believed to guard against radiation given off by various electronic devices, as well as environmental pollutants. Black tourmaline is also perceived as useful in purifying and neutralising negative thoughts and internal conflicts, and turning them into positive, usable energy. It is seen to provide strength.
