Pink Tourmaline Drop Set

This drop-shape gemstone earring and necklace set really make a statement!

The drops are 20mm x 15mm and have two gemstones (6mm -8mm) set in copper in the centre.

The drop-shape, necklace and earring hooks are solid copper and is rose gold plated to preserve the finish. They are therefore hypoallergenic. The chain is a delicate anchor chain with a ball clasp. It extends from 40cm to 50cm.

The gemstones we use are raw and unpolished, so they might have some” imperfections”. (In our opinion it adds to the beauty and individuality of each piece!)

All jewellery comes beautifully packaged in a jewellery box and relevant gemstone card, ready for gifting.

Jewellery pieces are created by a process called copper electroforming, which allows for the deposition of copper electrolytes over several hours in a copper/acid solution. This results in unique and unpredictable textures, as the entire process is organic.

Please be aware that the colour of copper darkens over time, and the item can be cleaned using a sachet of Copperbrite and a soft cloth. (Available here) Copper can potentially turn the skin green as it reacts with the chemicals in some skins. A coat of clear nail polish will prevent this.

About Pink Tourmaline:

Believed to have derived from the Sinhalese word turamali, this gemstone can be found in almost all colours - from the deepest of blues and greens, to the lightest of pinks and yellows. Ancient Egyptians believed tourmaline had such an impressive variety of colours, because it broke through a rainbow while pushing its way up to earth. When viewed from different angles, the colour in a single gemstone can appear to be completely different and may showcase a separate set of hues, a characteristic called pleochroism.

Tourmaline also becomes electrically charged when heated. When charged, it can attract dust and small paper scraps. When Dutch traders discovered this property, they used warmed tourmaline to draw out ashes from their pipes and named the stone “Aschetrekker”, which means “ash puller”.

Birthstone:  One of the birthstones for October (with opal)

Anniversary stone: 8th

Symbolism:

Many meanings associated with pink tourmaline can be traced back to love. It serves as a token of romantic love, love for one’s friends, reconciliation, compassion, love for one’s family and self-love.

Furthermore, it is also tied to emotional healing. Pink tourmaline is said to instil a sense of calm, comfort, peace and relaxation, which is why it is used in times of distress and for healing. It signifies hope.
