About Tanzanite:
As Tanzania is the place of origin and the only source of this beautiful blue rock, it was aptly named thereafter. Unlike nearly all of the world’s most popular gemstones, tanzanite was not discovered in commercial quantities until the 1960s. In the short time since then, the popularity of this gemstone has overtaken many other gemstones within the past century. This was accomplished mainly by Tiffany’s in New York’s promotion thereof in the 1960’s coupled with tanzanite’s beautiful blue colour. It is also recognised for its remarkably strong trichroism, meaning that it appears alternately as blue, violet or burgundy, depending on which way the crystal is viewed.
Birthstone: Because of its growing popularity, Tanzanite was designated as a modern birthstone for the month of December in 2002.
Anniversary stone: 24th
Symbolism:
Tanzanite is said to represent the heart and intellect, combined with intuition and purity. These stones are used as symbols of dignity, truth, judgement and longevity. They are also used to assist in many healing processes.
