Description

Natural raw red garnet set in copper, on copper chain.

Material

Natural gemstone and copper.

The 12-14mm raw gemstone is set in copper.

The solid copper chain (2mm wide) can extend from 40cm to 50cm and has an S clasp. The gemstone pendant cannot be removed from the chain.

All chains are rose gold plated to preserve the finish. The plating will wear off in time, revealing the natural copper colour underneath. Copper is a natural antibacterial agent, and the wearing of copper jewellery is considered to have a therapeutic effect on the human body.

Copper can potentially turn the skin green as it reacts with the chemicals in some skins. A coat of clear nail polish will prevent this.

As garnets were thought to resemble the seeds of the pomegranate, the word is derived from its Latin name. Garnet is a stone with a long history, dating as far back as 3 800 BC. The gemstone was used in Ancient Egyptian art and jewellery and it was valued as sacred by the Native American Indians, the South American Indians, the African tribal elders, the Mayans and the Aztecs.

Garnets come in a wide variety of colours, the most famous colour being deep red or the pyrope garnet.
