Large Herkimer Diamond Necklace (April Birthstone)

This large gemstone necklace has a solid copper chain (2mm wide) that is rose gold plated to preserve the finish. The chain can extend from 40cm to 50cm, has a lobster clasp and a 15-20mm Herkimer diamond (attached to the chain) set in copper.

All jewellery comes in a beautiful jewellery box with a relevant gemstone information card, as well as a thank you note with care instructions.

The gemstones we use are raw and unpolished, so they might have some” imperfections”. (In our opinion it adds to the beauty and individuality of each piece!) 

Jewellery pieces are created by a process called copper electroforming, which allows for the deposition of copper electrolytes over several hours in a copper/acid solution. This results in unique and unpredictable textures, as the entire process is organic.

Please be aware that the colour of copper darkens over time, and the item can be cleaned using a sachet of Copperbrite and a soft cloth. (Available here Copperbrite and/or polishing cloth – Down to Earth Jewellery) Copper can potentially turn the skin green as it reacts with the chemicals in some skins. A coat of clear nail polish will prevent this.

 About Herkimer Diamond:

Herkimer diamonds are beautiful double terminated quartz crystals found in Herkimer, New York. Incredibly, these phenomenal gemstones are close to 500 million years old. The crystals are magnificent works of nature, and are found in the rock, naturally faceted, each having eighteen facets and two points.  They are unlike real diamonds that have to be cut by man to give it its facets.

The Mohawk Indians held these crystals in high esteem and used them to make amulets.

The Herkimer diamond is known as the attunement stone, as it is believed that it can assist one in attuning with another person, the environment or an activity. It is also thought to energize, enliven and promote creativity, while it also represents ease, peace and calm in uncomfortable or fearful situations. Some believe the Herkimer diamond is effective in promoting dream recall.
