Large Citrine Short Dangly Earrings (November birthstone)

Natural raw citrine copper dangly earrings, handmade with love and care. Gemstones are approximately 12-14mm big. (Total length of earrings are +/_ 3.5cm)

The earring findings (the parts that go through the ears) are copper, plated with rose gold and therefore hypoallergenic.

The  gemstones we use are raw and unpolished, so they might have some” imperfections”. (In our opinion it adds to the beauty and individuality of each piece!) 

Jewellery pieces are created by a process called copper electroforming, which allows for the deposition of copper electrolytes over several hours in a copper/acid solution. This results in unique and unpredictable textures, as the entire process is organic.

Please be aware that the colour of copper darkens over time, and the item can be cleaned using a sachet of Copperbrite and a soft cloth. (Available here on my website at www.downtoeartjewellery.co.za) Copper can potentially turn the skin green as it reacts with the chemicals in some skins. A coat of clear nail polish will prevent this.

 About Citrine:

Citrine is the yellow variety of the quartz crystal. The name for citrine most likely comes from the Latin word citrina meaning yellow, or the French citron meaning lemon. Its warm golden colour is said to be a gift from the sun. Appreciation for this popular yellow gemstone dates as far back as 300 BC to 150 BC, where citrine has not only been used for decorative purposes, but also for protection.

It was also very popular for jewellery in the 19^th century. During the Art Deco period between World Wars 1 and 2, large citrines were set in many prized pieces, worn by stars such as Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford.

Symbolism:

Throughout the Middle Ages and even today, citrine is known as the merchant’s stone as it is believed to bring prosperity, abundance and wealth to those who wear it. It also encompasses all things warm and beautiful; hope, cheerfulness, joy, youth, health, regeneration, creativity and fidelity. It is said to be a stone that reminds you that you have a purpose, even when you have lost your way.
