Ah, I am already swept up in the romance of February and find myself doodling little hearts everywhere!💕
The anticipation of Valentine's Day surprises must keep everyone floating on a cloud this time of the year. It is almost like Cupid is shooting his arrows on automatic triggers as love is all around us and in the air!
The birthstone celebrated in February is the calming Amethyst. Known as purple Amethysts, they can be enriched in various shades of purple. Some Amethysts are a deep dark velvety purple, while others are a calming pale indigo hue or a gentle lavender tone that is as serene as the vast perfumed fields of Provence.
Amethyst is derived from the Greek word amethystos, which means "remedy against drunkenness". As the myth goes, Amethyst earned its hue from the blood-red wine tears of Dionysus. According to the fable, Amethyst was actually a young virgin who found herself on the receiving edge of the God Dionysus's wrath when he was drunk. The young girl cried out to the Goddess Diana for help, and the irritated Goddess turned her into a shimmering pale stone. When Dionysus realised the consequences of his foolishness, he wept into his wine glass and, in his emotion, overturned his goblet. The white stone soaked up the wine until it glowed a gentle purple hue.
Used for many centuries, from the Romans who believed the purple hues would save them from drunken debauchery to Queens who adorned themselves in the healing vibrations of Amethyst, as well as the Egyptians who thought that burying their dead wearing Amethyst provided protection and guidance into the afterlife.
Amethyst is believed to overcome addictions and compulsive behaviour and support sobriety. It is a soothing gem that bestows stability, inner peace, strength, sincerity and courage, restful sleep and calmness. Amethyst is also used for healing and treating a variety of disorders. In addition, it is believed that this beautiful gemstone pressed against the skin can aid emotional balance.
